BTS Plots Two-Night Takeover at ‘The Tonight Show,’ With Debut Performance of ‘Permission to Dance’

BTS is coming back to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in July for a special two-night musical takeover.

On Wednesday, July 13, the K-pop septet will bring the television debut performance of “Permission to Dance” — which fellow global pop superstar Ed Sheeran co-wrote — and chat with host Jimmy Fallon about what they’ve been up to. The following night on Thursday, July 14, BTS will bring a special rendition of “Butter,” which is currently spending its sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week (chart dated July 10).

“We are coming back to The Tonight Show. Make sure to tune in!” RM announces in a 10-second teaser clip.

Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook last visited The Tonight Show in fall 2020, when they performed “Mikrokosmos,” “Black Swan,” “Home,” “Dynamite” and “Idol,” and the group’s first Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Dynamite” during BTS Week. Their weeklong residency garnered more than 230 million digital views and generated the No. 1 “most social week” in late-night television ever, The Tonight Show confirmed to Billboard last year.

Hours ahead of the Tonight Show announcement, the global superstars appeared in the Louis Vuitton Men’s Wear Fall-Winter 2021 collection film, sporting luxe looks by Virgil Abloh. The visual featured the septet — who were named ambassadors of the French luxury brand in April — walking sleekly and mysteriously through a sparse bunker in Seoul.
