Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson and Paul Simon Announced for Central Park Homecoming Concert

Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson and Paul Simon will help celebrate the reopening of New York City this August. As New York Mayor Bill de Blasio promised back in June, the city will hold a “mega-concert” in Central Park celebrating the city’s grand reopening after the pandemic-stricken year.

At a press conference Thursday (July 1), de Blasio revealed the three initial headliners and promised there would be more to come.

“Three amazing artists have stepped forward and said they want to be part of the comeback of New York City,” de Blasio said. “They want to help us do this. And we’re just really appreciative to all three of them.”

The mayor mentioned the recent reopening of Springsteen’s Broadway show and stated, “He is beloved in New York City in an extraordinary way, even though he happens to come from Jersey. No one’s perfect. He is amazing.”

The “Homecoming” concert is set to take place in August in Central Park at the Great Lawn, which is also the site for the Global Citizen Festival. The celebration will be part of a “Homecoming Week” de Blasio is planning.

Veteran music producer and executive Clive Davis has been tapped to produce the mega concert.

“I turned to Clive, I said, ‘I need the biggest, most extraordinary all-star lineup you can put together, heavy on New York artists,'” de Blasio said back in June. “In August, get ready for an unforgettable week, a once-in-a-lifetime concert and a moment that really says New York City’s back.”

More details for the Homecoming concert are expected in the coming weeks.
