Britney Spears’ Son Jayden James Discusses Expressing Himself Through Music

Jayden James discusses his love of music, his car obsession, his first crush, and the balance between being largely unknown and heavily scrutinized in an Interview magazine feature titled “What Does It Feel Like to Be Jayden James?” Britney Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline have previously maintained their two sons’ privacy.

When asked, “What does it feel like to be you?”, the 20-year-old model responds, “It feels like I always have something to prove, even though I don’t need to prove anything.” He also states that seeking approval is overrated, adding, “The more you try to please others, the more you lose yourself.”

Britney Spears has frequently praised her son’s musical abilities on social media. In 2025, she posted Instagram clips of Jayden playing the piano and rapping.

In one clip, Jayden plays an unidentified song on the piano while his mother walks through her living room, calls it “that’s sick!”, and captions the post “WOW WOW WOW !!!”

Jayden made his official runway debut walking for Vetements during their spring/summer 2027 menswear show at Paris Fashion Week in June 2026. In the interview, he shares that playing Minecraft reminds him of his childhood, that his most recent purchase is a Nord Stage 4 synthesizer he cannot wait to use for music production, and that “bro” is his most overused word.

He notes that music is his primary outlet for feeling better, stating, “producing music or playing piano. Expressing myself through music has always been my best therapy.”

Reflecting on growing up in pop royalty, Jayden admits he often fakes the impression that “I have everything figured out.” He expresses a desire for people to stop asking loaded questions, saying, “I’d rather people get to know me rather than assume they already do.”

He also cites the anime series Dragon Ball and warrior Son Goku as an ongoing influence, explaining, “In a way, I still look up to him because he always reminds me to try to surpass my own limits.”

Spears and Federline were married from 2004 to 2008 and also share a 21-year-old older son, Sean Preston, who walked alongside Jayden in the Vetements show earlier in 2026.
