Britney Spears Has a Strong Message for Supporters Who Previously ‘Never Showed Up’ for Her

Britney Spears is calling out insincere supporters of the #FreeBritney movement.

On Friday (July 16), the 39-year-old pop superstar took to social media to share a seething message aimed at loved ones publicly showing their support amid her ongoing conservatorship battle who previously weren’t there when she needed their help.

“There’s nothing worse than when the people closest to you who never showed up for you post things in regard to your situation whatever it may be and speak righteously for support … there’s nothing worse than that !!!!” Spears began the lengthy note on Instagram.

The singer continued, “How dare the people you love the most say anything at all … did they even put a hand out to even lift me up at the TIME !!!??? How dare you make it public that NOW you CARE … did you put your hand out when I was drowning ???? Again … NO.”

Spears’ thoughts were written alongside a text image that read: “Never forget who ignored you when you needed them and who helped you before you even had to ask.” She didn’t specifically name anyone in her post, but noted that the individuals are only speaking up now to “save face for yourself publicly.”

“If you’re reading this and you know who you are … and you actually have the nerve to say anything about my situation just to save face for yourself publicly !!!” she wrote. “If you’re gonna post something …. Please stop with the righteous approach when you’re so far from righteous it’s not even funny ….”

Earlier in the week, Spears scored a major legal victory when L.A. County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled that she can hire her own lawyer in her pursuit of ending the conservatorship that has controlled her life and career for the last 13 years. And for the first time, the singer used the viral hashtag-turned-movement “#FreeBritney” in celebration.
