On August 19, Savannah Blackstock Lee—Brandon Blackstock’s 23-year-old daughter—honored her father via a heartfelt Instagram post, sharing treasured snapshots from their years together. Reflecting on his steadfast encouragement, she wrote, “My father always cleared the path for my dreams, no matter how lofty or distant, and pursued them alongside me.” Blackstock passed away on August 7 at age 48, after a three-year fight with cancer.
“He was my greatest champion around the world—my confidant, my voice of reason, and the call I cherished most every day,” she added. The gallery featured him in a sleek black suit and cowboy hat at her 2023 wedding to Quentin Lee, tender moments on a family farm, and joyful scenes with her children.
Over the past six months, Savannah continued, their bond deepened through a shared faith in Jesus. “He has always loved the Lord,” she noted, “but recently he hungered for His word with renewed passion—a journey we embraced together.” She reflected that his spiritual gifts eclipsed every material blessing, culminating twelve days ago in the greatest gift of all: the comfort of knowing he rests in Heaven with our Savior.
Blackstock leaves behind Savannah and her brother Seth from his first marriage, plus two younger children born during his nine-year marriage to singer Kelly Clarkson, which began in 2013 and concluded with a finalized divorce in 2022.
Savannah, who recently announced she is expecting her third child early next year, concluded her message to her “favorite cowboy”: “Though I’ve lost a piece of my heart, Heaven has gained an angel. I treasure the time we shared and look forward to eternity. I love you, Dad, and will miss you beyond measure. Enjoy your ranch above, crafted by God to reflect your heart’s desires.”
Earlier this month, the family confirmed Brandon Blackstock’s passing, stating, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce Brandon’s peaceful departure, surrounded by loved ones.”
Country icon Reba McEntire, Brandon’s former stepmother, paid tribute soon after his death was announced: “My stepson has gone home to be with God. His struggles have ended, and he rests in eternal peace. There was no one like him, and I’m grateful for every moment we shared.”
In the wake of his passing, Kelly Clarkson canceled her appearance at the Band Together Texas flood relief concert in Austin, citing personal reasons. She had earlier postponed the remaining shows of her August Las Vegas residency to care for Brandon during his illness.
