During the latest episode of The Breakfast Club, guest Boosie Badazz defended the comments he made in July about Lil Nas X. The “Nasty, Nasty” rapper had previously said that he would “drag his a– offstage and beat his a–” if he saw Lil Nas X perform naked at an awards show.
In the latest episode of the radio show, co-host Angela Yee asked Badazz about his comments, wondering if he thought he’d gone too far. Badazz said he didn’t, and took the moment to defend his homophobic comments, saying that he felt straight people were the ones actually being persecuted. “I gotta speak up because as far as straight people in the world, you don’t have any opinion no more on sexuality. Everything is harm,” he said. “If you say anything — ‘I’m straight, I like women’ — it’s vulgar to, you know.”
Yee, Charlamagne tha God and their co-host DJ Envy immediately jumped in, saying that Badazz was incorrect in his assessment. But the rapper doubled down. “You can’t brag on really smashing or your sexuality no more,” he said. “It’s ran by LGBTQ [people].”
Charlamagne attempted to correct the rapper, letting Badazz know that, in fact, artists have “been rapping about f—ing women forever, in videos, in their songs. That ain’t changed.” Badazz, however, ignored that point, and instead focused on the fact that times have changed since he began rapping, using DaBaby‘s homophobic remarks from July as an example.
“How many times you been on set … and you heard somebody say, ‘If you ain’t got AIDS, make noise,’ and the whole club is like, ‘Ahhh’?” he asked Charlamagne, referring to DaBaby’s homophobic Rolling Loud rant. “It’s a different time, and because he’s one of the biggest. They try to make examples out of people.”
Badazz, who originally made his homophobic comments about Lil Nas X when defending DaBaby, recently added the “Rockstar” rapper to the lineup for his music festival Boosie Bash taking place on Aug. 28 in Baton Rouge, La. DaBaby took to his Instagram last week to announce the news, saying “Boosie Bash, Aug. 28,Baton Rouge, Lousiana. Live show killa. Dumb s—.”
As far as his comments about Lil Nas X, Badazz said that he stands by them because he feels that Lil Nas X and rappers like him are “attacking our children.” In the interview, Badazz went on a prolonged rant, claiming that because Lil Nas X and other gay artists are being open and honest about queer sexuality, that will affect the younger generation.
“Who love these rappers? The kids,” he exclaimed. “If you make every rapper go with this … you grab that generation. I loved every rapper when I was little, you know? I tried to copy what they did. It’s a new day now, and I feel like they’re pushing it on our kids.”
After Charlamagne questioned the logic of what Badazz said, the rapper continued, saying he was mainly offended by Lil Nas X saying he would get naked on the stage at an awards show in a joke tweet. “I was like, d—, all these straight people in the world, all these millions of kids gonna watch this, and ain’t no straight rapper gonna say, ‘Nah, n—a, we don’t want you on that TV,'” he said. “If you were trying to raise them, would you be cool with sitting there and trying to watch Nas X go up there and take his clothes off? If you do, Charlamagne, you’re part of the problem.”
Naturally, Lil Nas X saw the clip from the interview and decided to offer up a cheeky response. “Wow…. this is insane. Almost as insane as my new single ‘industry baby’ which is out now!” he replied to the show’s tweet about the interview, where he linked to his website, telling fans to “Get it here.”
