Billie Eilish Rules Alternative Album & Song Charts With ‘Happier Than Ever’ & Its Title Track

Billie Eilish enters at No. 1 on four Billboard alternative charts dated Aug. 14 with her new album Happier Than Ever and its title track.

The set debuts atop Alternative Albums with 238,000 equivalent album units earned in the July 30-Aug. 5 tracking week, according to MRC Data, with 153,000 from album sales.

Its 84,000 units from streams is the largest sum for any artist on the chart since Taylor Swift‘s Evermore drew 167,000 units from streaming on the chart dated Dec. 26, 2020.

Happier is Eilish’s third No. 1 on Alternative Albums, following the seven-week reign of Dont Smile at Me in 2019 and the 56-frame rule for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? between 2019 and this April, the longest command in the chart’s 14-year history.

As previously reported, Happier bows atop the all-format Billboard 200, marking her second ruler, following Asleep (three weeks in 2019).

The new album’s title cut concurrently crowns three Billboard song charts, led by its launch atop Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. In its first week, the song scored 23.3 million U.S. streams and 3,800 downloads sold (as well as a sampling of non-promoted radio airplay: 41,100 in audience).

Eilish adds her second Hot Rock & Alternative Songs No. 1 , after fellow Happier track “My Future” led the Aug. 15, 2020, list. She joins Swift as the only women with multiple leaders since the chart began in 2009, as Swift also sports two, “Cardigan” and “Willow,” both in 2020.

The entirety of Happier‘s 16-song tracklist has made Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. Pre-release singles “My Future” and “Therefore I Am” hit Nos. 1 and 2, in August and November 2020, respectively, while the other 14 titles infuse the Aug. 14-dated tally. “Happier” is followed by “NDA,” up 9-8, while “Getting Older” debuts at No. 10, upping her total to nine career top 10s.

“Happier” also starts atop Alternative Digital Song Sales and Alternative Streaming Songs. It’s Eilish’s seventh ruler on the former and her chart-leading sixth on the latter.
