Bill Callahan and Bonnie “Prince” Billy have joined forces on another cover song, this time taking on Scout Niblett’s “Kidnapped by Neptune” with Hamerkop. The track arrives with news of their forthcoming Blind Date Party compilation, which collects the numerous covers the two have released over the past year-plus. It’s out December 10 via Drag City, with physical editions arriving early next year. Check out “Kidnapped by Neptune” below.
In addition to the Niblett cover, Blind Date Party includes the pair’s takes on songs by Cat Stevens (“Blackness of the Night”), Billie Eilish (“Wish You Were Gay”), and Steely Dan (“Deacon Blues”). Each track also features at least one other guest, with Ty Segall, Bill MacKay, George Xylouris, and Six Organs of Admittance all making appearances. The duo’s version of “The Wild Kindness,” a tribute to David Berman, includes a number of other Drag City affiliates (Matt Sweeney, Haley Fohr, Meg Baird) and Cassie Berman, the late singer-songwriter’s former spouse.
