From the 2018 Coachella stage to 2021 quarantine Zoom calls, Destiny’s Child knows how to excite fans with the prospect of a reunion.
In promotion of Michelle Williams‘ latest book, Checking In: How Getting Real About Depression Saved My Life – And Can Save Yours, released Tuesday, the singer decided to have a special check-in of her own: with former bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland.
“Look who checked in yesterday with me!! The only time we’ll let y’all eavesdrop on our group chats!! #checkingin #thereunionyallhavebeenwaitingfor,” Williams captioned the first audio clip, which shows a picture of the trio peacefully praying backstage before a show.
“You are so inspirational for both of us, and we just love watching you become exactly who you are and the world can see your impact and wisdom and your beautiful advice and your discernment. And we’re just so proud of you,” Bey says in the first clip.
The second clip shows a more recent picture of their in-person reunion, with Rowland holding up her baby boy Noah, whom she gave birth to at the end of January. Both Beyoncé and Williams were virtually present at the birth via Zoom, but now his “awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome” aunties were finally able to meet their new nephew in person. The 40-year-old “Motivation” singer also recently shared how their bond allows her to seek advice from the other two about her solo music.
While the audio clip served as a virtual check-in from each lady’s kitchen, Bey dropped a hint that she had been whipping up some new music during quarantine. “I’m cooking some music. That’s Chef Boyardee and Chef Boy-Kelly,” the 39-year-old superstar quipped with some bars for the BeyHive to snack on.
Williams is feeding DC fans with an entire book, which she hopes will make readers understand “It’s OK to not be OK, and it is OK to tell somebody you’re not OK. … I should have done that with y’all,” the 41-year-old artist-turned-author told her groupmates in the third audio clip. “I’ve been open about a lot of things, but I never was really truthful about how I really was. Even though y’all have proven to be safe friends, safe sisters, sometimes people have to know you’re not going to be looked at differently if you say, ‘Y’all, I’ve been really sad a little too long. Something’s going on.'”
Bey chimed in and said over the last two decades, “the greatest thing Destiny’s Child has ever given me is the gift of friendship with you ladies.”
