Behind-the-Scenes Photos of Audrey Hobert’s Billboard Chartbreaker Shoot

Earlier this year, during a cover story for Billboard spotlighting her close friend Gracie Abrams, Audrey Hobert flipped open her Notes app and recited the lyrics to an early collaboration: a whimsical parody of Smash Mouth’s “All Star.”

“Hey now, shake your sass off / Get some fuel now, propane / Hey now, dance your sass off / Break it down now, slow mane / All that glitters is gold / Even sexy ogres eventually grow old,” she belted out to the familiar Shrek anthem. Moments after finishing, she buried her face in her hands, mortified by her college-era creativity.

The duo penned the spoof roughly four years ago in Abrams’ basement as a playful experiment. Fast forward to today, and the pop industry is taking both singer-songwriters seriously. In 2024, Hobert earned her first chart-topping credit when Abrams’ album The Secret of Us spawned the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 single “That’s So True,” co-written by the pair during a tipsy rooftop session at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. This year, Hobert has parlayed that breakthrough into her own solo venture, unveiling her infectious debut single “Sue Me” in May—a dance-pop earworm about rekindling an ex—followed by her spirited first album Who’s the Clown? in August.
