The Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2 handheld console has become a rare item. Only 100 units reached international buyers, and the company offers no guarantee that further stock will arrive.
Ayaneo teased the console for two weeks before opening pre-orders on June 26. Demand proved immediate and overwhelming.
The developers manufactured over 1,000 units. When domestic pre-orders launched in China, sales rapidly outpaced the available inventory. Company management worried about their ability to fulfill existing orders.
The team allocated only 100 units to international customers and subsequently removed the product from the global website. Ayaneo staff are currently evaluating the cost of raw materials and checking available factory components before deciding on future production.
Ayaneo maintains that its marketing campaign was not designed to sell only 100 devices. The company sold the bulk of the stock on the domestic market in just one hour.
The manufacturer is negotiating with suppliers to determine if additional production is feasible. The team requires more time to assess if they can meet the minimum order quantities needed for a second batch.
Some observers suspect this shortage is a calculated marketing stunt. However, if the official account holds true, gamers may never see a second run of the Pocket Micro 2 due to volatile memory prices and pressure from competing devices.
