Awich to Curate a Segment at NYC’s SummerStage Outdoor Music Event Featuring JP THE WAVY, OZworld and More

Awich will take the helm as curator of “Japan Champloo in the Park,” a special segment of Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage in New York City’s Central Park, showcasing premier talent from her homeland.

Set for Sunday, September 14 at 6 p.m. ET, the evening features performances by five dynamic Japanese artists: rapper and curator Awich, pianist BIGYUKI, rapper JP THE WAVY, vocalist-producer OZworld and DJ/beatmaker U-LEE.

“I’m profoundly honored to perform in Central Park this summer,” Awich shares. “Hailing from Okinawa, I’ve embraced the term champuru—‘to mix’—in our title to echo hip-hop’s essence: a blend of cultures and ideas birthing new expressions. I can’t wait to bring this fusion from Japan to New York.”

Launched nearly four decades ago, Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage has become New York City’s most cherished free outdoor arts festival. Each season, over 80 free and ticketed performances unfold in Central Park and neighborhood parks across the five boroughs, drawing more than 220,000 attendees to celebrate genres from jazz and hip-hop to Latin, world, indie and dance.

Over its storied history, SummerStage has welcomed icons such as Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Herbie Hancock, The Roots, Jay-Z and Nas, cumulatively entertaining upwards of seven million people from New York and beyond.
