Avril Lavigne has formally returned stronger than ever and it is not strictly metaphorical. Marking her first tv look in years, Lavigne carried out her intimate new single “Head Above Water” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the primary time ever on Wednesday evening (Sept. 26). 

Both a cry for assist and a strong, religious epiphany detailing the Canadian singer’s journey via her wrestle with Lyme illness — the rationale why she’s been away from the general public eye for nearly 5 years — “Head Above Water” is a private piano ballad that provides a never-seen-before facet of Lavigne: concurrently weak and robust. 

Singing the stirring tune for the primary time stay, Lavigne wore a cut-out, goddess-like white robe because the stage’s blue lights complemented the ocean visuals behind her — a metaphor for her near-death expertise with Lyme illness, throughout which she’s mentioned she felt like she was drowning.

Chanting for her life, the “Girlfriend” singer passionately recited the emotionally charged refrain over stark piano chords: “God, hold my head above water/ Don’t let me drown, it will get more durable/ I’ll meet you there on the altar/ As I fall all the way down to my knee, do not let me drown.”
