Billboard Japan and Spotify have officially unveiled “Women In Music — EQUAL STAGE,” a collaborative concert experience designed to spotlight burgeoning female talent across diverse musical genres. Scheduled for June 9 at Tokyo’s SGC Hall Ariake, the event serves as a highlight of MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK. The inaugural lineup features a powerhouse roster, including the dynamic dance-pop ensemble ATARASHII GAKKO!, rappers Awich and LANA, and the introspective rock duo Hitsujibungaku.
This concert synthesizes two pivotal industry efforts: Billboard Japan’s “Women In Music” initiative, established in 2022 to honor women driving societal change and fostering inclusivity, and Spotify’s global “EQUAL” program, which has been expanding visibility and resources for female creators since 2021. By joining forces, they aim to further their shared mission of championing gender equity within the music business through a spectacular, one-night-only showcase.
Television personality and announcer Chie Honma will preside over the evening as the master of ceremonies.
“EQUAL STAGE” stands as a cornerstone event within the broader MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK, a series of festivities preceding the country’s premier international music awards gala. Comprehensive details regarding the week’s programming can be found here.
Fans can explore the artistry of the performers by listening to the official EQUAL Japan playlist, curated by Spotify. Listen to the playlist here.
