Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Keeps Pirates of the Caribbean Reference

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced retains the original game’s Easter egg featuring a scene with the bodies of hanged pirates at the entrance to a bay.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has kept one of the original game’s most subtle Easter eggs. Players can once again view a scene reminiscent of the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which is based on real events from the Golden Age of Piracy.

The scene involves the bodies of hanged pirates positioned near the entrance to one of the bays. This episode is easy to miss while exploring the world, although film fans will immediately recognize it as a reference to the beginning of the movie, where Jack Sparrow arrives in Port Royal by sailing past gibbets carrying executed corsairs.

This scene has a historical basis. Colonial authorities and military fleets genuinely displayed the bodies of executed pirates near ports and shipping lanes to deter others. Such practices existed in the Caribbean region as well as in London, where similar warnings could still be seen as late as the nineteenth century.

The remake preserves this element, serving as a reminder of the film and the harsh realities of the pirate era.
