Armed Fantasia Canceled After Several Years in Development

Armed Fantasia: To the End of the Wilderness, a Wild Arms-inspired project, has been canceled after several years of development and a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Digital Bros, the owner of 505 Games, announced the termination of work on the project. The game was announced in 2022 alongside Penny Blood as part of a joint crowdfunding campaign. Armed Fantasia was developed by a team formed by the creators of the original Wild Arms, and the game was intended to feature turn-based battles and a vast westernpunk world.

In March of this year, lead designer Akifumi Kaneko reported the completion of a vertical slice and the handover of the project to the publisher. Later, the fate of the game came into question.

Digital Bros also canceled Directorate: Novitiate and the Battle Island sequel. The company explained these decisions by citing market changes and additional expenses required to complete the projects, writing off €18.7 million in assets, of which €17.6 million came from the canceled games.

The fate of the Armed Fantasia team remains unknown. The developers have also not reported whether they will look for a new publisher.
