She might be famously “outta love,” but these days, Anastacia is finding plenty of reasons to smile. The powerhouse American vocalist makes a surprise, comedic appearance in Urzila, a fresh Australian comedy series spearheaded by the sharp-witted South African-New Zealand comedian Urzila Carlson.
In the sketch, the pop icon attempts to whip a group of backup dancers into shape for an upcoming “dancehall banger.” Her primary directive for the squad is simple: they need to deliver pure, unadulterated heat.
Anastacia, who began her career as a professional dancer, is unimpressed by the standard, high-energy maneuvers of a standout dancer named Davis. Instead, she finds herself captivated by Urzila’s delightfully eccentric choreography—a style that marches to the beat of its own drum.
When Davis questions the artistic integrity of the performance, suggesting it looks more like a community outreach project, Anastacia embraces the role of the discerning critic. Channeling her inner Simon Cowell, she offers a surprising verdict: “Maybe I do agree, she wasn’t dancing very good. But I think she was dancing great.”
