At the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, pop trio and three-time finalists AJR performed their hits “BANG!” and “Way Less Sad” backed by a horn section and complete with colorful flares of smoke throughout the set.
Lead vocalist Jack Met, wearing his ever-present aviator hat, enthusiastically bounced around onstage and at one point gave a shout-out to their dad, who was out in the crowd at L.A. Live.
As the band segued into “Way Less Sad,” the line “I’m A-OK” hit particularly hard as the countless fans gathered outside sang along — a fitting moment as the world continues to emerge from the ongoing pandemic.
Earlier in the night, “BANG!” scored the band of brothers — Adam, Jack and Ryan Met — their first win for top rock song. Other finalists in the category included All Time Low (with blackbear), Glass Animals, Machine Gun Kelly (with blackbear) and twenty one pilots.
AJR was also up for top duo/group, which BTS won, and is still up for top rock artist.
The Billboard Music Awards are produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC. MRC and Penske Media are co-parent companies of Billboard.
