Announced at the beginning of April 2021, Abandoned is a title developed exclusively for PS5. Its reveal, accompanied by a short trailer, quite enigmatic moreover, allowed us to know that it is the studio Blue Box Game Studios which is at the controls of this survival / horror game in first-person view. Only here, for a few weeks now, the Internet has looked into the case of this title which seems to hide its true identity. And if we are to believe some clues left here and there by the creators, it could well be that the game has connections with Hideo Kojima and a certain Silent Hill. How is it possible ? We decided to put all the clues together and lay out the theories that make Abandoned one of the most exciting soap operas of recent weeks. Be careful, hang in there!
As we know, Hideo Kojima is a game designer who likes to play with announcement effects. We all remember his reveal campaign around Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain in 2012, the creation of the fake studio “Moby Dick Game Studios” and the character of Joakim Mogren, an individual invented from scratch and whose name was the anagram of his first name: Joakim / Kojima. If the fans and the theorists, at the time, quickly unearthed the pot-aux-roses thanks to the clues left by the Japanese creator, it is not forbidden that the latter decided to repeat the feat to teaser around ‘Abandoned. To try to understand the inception, we must first look at the case of the boss of the studio Blue Box, a certain Hasan Kahraman who strangely shares the same initials as those of Hideo Kojima. Not to mention that until now, we had never heard of the studio in question, or even Hasan Kahraman, who would be for some people an actor hired by Kojima in person. Better (or worse, it depends), some have observed that by translating Hideo from Japanese into Turkish via Google Translate, we get, hold on Kahraman! (We tried and it’s true). Another hypothesis comes to reinforce the theory that Kojima is behind the game: Blue Box Game Studios could be a barely hidden reference to the game Death Stranding through the initials BB for Bridge Babies. Yes, it’s a bit far-fetched in this case.
But that’s not all, theorists have found that the studio’s previous mobile games were logoed with a handprint, which looks a lot like the one found in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding game. Likewise, the recent trailer for Death Stranding in its Director’s Cut version features a Dutch flag on the backpack of Sam Porter, the hero of the game. Knowing that Blue Box is a Dutch studio, many are who see it as a pretty obvious connection. Others recall that Kojima recently opened a Kojima Productions office in the Netherlands and that this is pure coincidence. But since we are in the craziest theories, know that Hideo Kojima posted photos of him holding a blue box and also published a little later a tweet in which we see photos of books with the terms “Silent” and “Hill”. As for the studio’s YouTube channel, it is oddly empty of content, while its banner represents a set of hills, which means “hills” in English. Even crazier, looking closely at the Abandoned trailer, at 0’49 min, we see that the trunk of the tree hides 2 precise letters: the P and the T, which could refer to PT, the famous demo of Silent Hill. In short, enough to have the brain that smokes.
We could stop there, except that the studio’s Twitter account is also having fun sowing clues that participate in theories. While the presentation of Abandoned’s gameplay was due on June 22 (it was postponed the same day for August, we remind you), the developers posted some cryptic messages: “Guess the name: Abandoned = (First letter S, Last letter L). Revelation is approaching …” It didn’t take long for fans to see it as a clue with the game Silent Hill, setting the internet on fire and forcing the developers to delete the tweet in question and disallow any connection to Kojima’s game.
We wanted to clear things up. We have no relationship with Konami. Silent Hill is the property of Konami. We have no relationship with Hideo Kojima. It was never our intention to tease the name Silent Hill. We sincerely apologize for this.
False track or damage control from Blue Box Game Studio who played a little too much with fire? Still, Abandoned is a game whose announcement is teasing on a large scale, with undoubtedly false leads cleverly put in place, allowing others to take advantage of the situation to be foamed once again.
