Following a record-shattering run at the box office, the surreal horror sensation Backrooms is finally making its way to digital platforms. A24 confirmed on Friday that the chilling liminal-space thriller will be available to rent or own starting Tuesday, July 14, across major storefronts including Amazon and Apple TV for $24.99.

Details regarding a wide-release streaming debut or a physical Blu-ray collector’s edition remain under wraps for now.

Backrooms has undoubtedly been the breakout narrative of the year, cementing itself as A24’s most profitable project to date. Despite a modest production budget of just $10 million, the film has raked in over $359 million globally, securing its spot as the ninth-highest-grossing film of the year worldwide.

Director Kane Parsons, aged 20, has officially shattered records, becoming the youngest filmmaker in history to helm a project that debuted at number one globally. His cinematic success stems from his grassroots beginnings on YouTube, where he cultivated a massive following with his original Backrooms series.

Rooted in the internet phenomenon known as “creepypasta,” the film expands upon the unsettling imagery of an infinite, yellow-walled labyrinth. The narrative centers on Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a disillusioned furniture retailer who discovers a portal into this extradimensional void. As the film progresses, he pulls others into the hunt—including his therapist, played by Renate Reinsve—only to confront the nightmarish entities lurking within the architecture of reality.
