Apparently for Twenty One Pilots, Saturdays are best spent coming face to face with a sea monster. The alternative pop/rock duo released the music video for their single “Saturday” on Thursday (July 8), featuring a guest appearance from a giant creature of the deep blue sea.
The “Saturday” video finds a pink-haired Tyler Joseph delivering vocals and Josh Dun characteristically playing drums atop a boat and in a room below sea level. All goes well for a majority of the video — a crowd of nautical partygoers dances along to the band’s performance — until a spiky ocean creature charges right through the middle of the underwater dance party.
The video closes with a Jaws-remniscent birds-eye view of the party’s survivors floating in the water, the murky silhouette of the sea creature lurking underneath them.
According to the press release, the video was shot over the course of a week in May across multiple locations, including the interior of an operating submarine and an underwater set. Directed by Andrew Donoho, it’s the third music video for a song off Twenty One Pilots’ latest album Scaled And Icy, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts while landing at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The videos for “Shy Away” and “Choker” went up in April.
Twenty One Pilots’ slew of singles and videos comes before they embark on their recently announced Takeøver Tour, which kicks off Sept. 21. The guys will perform in both intimate club settings and full arenas across Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Columbus, Atlanta, and London.
