5 Uplifting Moments in Latin Music This Week (August 14)

From career milestones and new music releases to major announcements and more, Billboard editors highlight the latest news buzz in Latin music every week. Here’s what happened in the Latin music world this week.

Billboard Latin Music Awards

This week, Telemundo and Billboard unveiled all the finalists for the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Bad Bunny leads the pack as a 22-time finalist in 13 categories, including artist of the year. He’s followed by Maluma with 11 nods, J Balvin with nine nods, and Karol G, Anuel AA, and Black Eyed Peas with eight each. The 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards, produced and broadcasted live by Telemundo, will take place Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla., kicking off at 7 p.m. ET with the one-hour red carpet special “La Alfombra de Premios Billboard,” followed by the three-hour Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Summer spotlight concert series

In other Billboard news, Billboard and Rockstar Energy announced its first-ever Summer Spotlight Concert Series headlined by Karol G and SAINt JHN. Taking place on Aug. 30 and Sept. 16, the exclusive event will be held virtually on Billboard.com for fans to enjoy in the comfort of their own home. Fans will also have the opportunity to unlock exclusive content and a special encore set with the purchase of a limited-edition Rockstar Energy Summer Spotlight can. El Fantasma’s Exciting Week

El Fantasma had many reasons to celebrate this week, including reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart with “Soy Bueno Amigo” and becoming a finalist at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards. On a personal level, El Fantasma inaugurated his A Cortar barbershop in Fontana, Calif., and during the festivities, he and his wife also revealed they were expecting a baby girl. “So many blessings in one day,” the Regional Mexican artist expressed on social media.

Paula Arenas’ Special Concert

Following her viral initiative on social media, #MiBebeEsUnLeon, where many mothers shared sweet photos and videos of their children, Paula Arenas will now show her gratitude with a special private livestream. Named after her single, a modern-day heartfelt lullaby, Arenas’ first-ever virtual concert will take place from the intimacy of her own home at noon ET on Aug. 21, and is dedicated to all of the parents who formed part of the #MiBebeEsUnLeon online movement. Sangria Mix Podcast

Marketing and Public Relations agency Nevarez Communications launched its Sangria Mix podcast series to “address certain issues that have gone unnoticed but are undoubtedly extremely important within the music industry.” Produced by La Coctelera Music, at the helm of music journalists Alex Garcia Amat and Nuria Net, the podcast will be moderated by Mayna Nevarez, CEO and founder of Nevarez Communications, and Michelle Velez, senior director of marketing and public relations, where they will be joined by artists and industry leaders to discuss different topics such as the importance of creating impactful content for media, new trends in this era, and artist development. “With Sangria Mix we seek to share our knowledge with the new generation and highlight new talents and trends that have evolved within the industry,” Nevarez expressed in a statement. “We hope that our listeners will benefit from the valuable information they will have access to with each episode.” Sangria Mix is available through Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcasts, among other platforms.
