28 Years Later, Resident Evil 2 Fans Uncover the Mystery of Jill Valentine’s “Guy” — It’s a Famous Actor

Capcom continues to yield its old secrets.

Fans of Resident Evil 2 recently identified a photograph sitting on Jill Valentine’s desk—a detail that puzzled players since the game’s 1998 release. The low resolution of the original files made identification impossible for decades.

A fan known as Morio conducted a search through vintage Japanese magazines to solve the mystery. After years of research, he confirmed the identity of the person in the picture. The man is actor Kyle MacLachlan, famous for his roles in Twin Peaks and the Fallout series.

Morio shared both the in-game screenshot and the original magazine image:

The developers filled the STARS office in Resident Evil 2 with various images pulled from magazines. Other hidden photos included Winona Ryder, actors from Back to the Future, Mel Gibson, and Jodie Foster.

Capcom designers removed these real-world references when building the 2019 remake. The desk now displays a photograph of a golden retriever instead.
