Miley Cyrus is proving that the path to the future often leads through the past. The pop powerhouse recently unveiled a nostalgic music video for her latest single, “Younger You,” which finds her revisiting the legacy of Hannah Montana two decades after the character first captured the world’s attention. Cyrus originally premiered the track during the emotional finale of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.
The visual, released on Friday (March 27), serves as a poignant montage that bridges the gap between generations. It artfully weaves together archival footage of a teenage Cyrus from 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie with modern-day shots of the artist. While she now sports a collection of tattoos, she returns to her signature blonde aesthetic, driving through familiar landscapes and carrying the exact pink makeup chest featured in the original film.
“Somewhere along the way, we lost touch / We used to be so happy just because,” Cyrus sings on the atmospheric ballad. The lyrics reach a sentimental peak as she pleads, “I know you had to go eventually / But don’t forget about me, don’t forget about me.”
The video also incorporates highlights from the recent Disney+ anniversary celebration. That special documented Cyrus’s return to the iconic sets where it all began, featuring live performances of her greatest fictional hits and appearances from peers like Selena Gomez and Chappell Roan. The event also included a candid sit-down with Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper and a touching onscreen reunion with her father and co-star, Billy Ray Cyrus. Throughout the special, Cyrus discussed how this milestone helped her reclaim and celebrate the character as a fundamental part of her own identity.
“Younger You” adds a fresh chapter to a storied discography. During her tenure as the Disney Channel icon, Cyrus landed 20 tracks on the Billboard Hot 100, including the top 10 powerhouse “He Could Be the One.”
