Fresh off their military enlistment and the global launch of their latest album, ARIRANG, the members of BTS are trading the spotlight for the stove. In a charming new feature released by Vogue on Friday, March 27, Jin, V, and Jimin reunited in the kitchen to prepare a traditional spread of janchi-guksu (Korean noodle soup) and misugaru, a nutrient-rich grain shake.
With his seasoned culinary background, Jin naturally stepped into the role of head chef, attempting to maintain order while V and Jimin served as his spirited, albeit mischievous, sous chefs. The session was punctuated by laughter and chaos: V turned the simple task of draining noodles into an acrobatic performance, while Jimin largely ignored his duties to perfect his “Busan-style” misugaru—a recipe that apparently calls for an excessive, “chewable” amount of sugar.
“It has to have texture,” Jimin quipped, eventually convincing a skeptical Jin to taste the concoction. After a quick sip, Jin reluctantly admitted it was delicious, prompting Jimin to boast, “I told you! This is how we do it in Busan. You need more sugar than you’d ever imagine.”
The lighthearted atmosphere didn’t stop V from later questioning the sudden disappearance of their sugar supply, but despite the kitchen antics, the trio successfully plated a meal that looked as good as it presumably tasted. Between bites and photos of their handiwork, the idols touched upon the deeper meaning behind their music. V explained that ARIRANG is more than just a collection of songs; it is a creative manifesto intended to signal a “pivotal transformation” for the group.
This culinary interlude follows a whirlwind week for the Bangtan Boys. Since the debut of ARIRANG seven days ago, the group has maintained a relentless pace—headlining a massive comeback concert in Seoul before jetting to New York City for a Spotify fan event and a high-profile appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which featured a breathtaking performance filmed inside the Guggenheim Museum.
