Avalanche’s open-world robohunter Generation Zero appears neat

As pitches go, “the Just Cause mob make an open-world shooter fighting robots across the countryside of 1980s Sweden” is a reasonably respectable one, and one which caught my ear when Avalanche Studios introduced Generation Zero in June. But what’s it truly like? A brand new narrated “gameplay trailer” provides an summary of the game, all its sneak-o-shoot-a-looting, and it does sound a good bit like Sir, You Are Being Hunted with shellsuits as a substitute of tweed. Here, watch it your self beneath.

Not dangerous, that. I do frown at anybody presenting 80s nostalgia as a characteristic however I’m defs up for creeping by way of Swedish forests and villages with three friends in co-op, taking pictures robots to graft their guts onto my gun. I particularly just like the chat about robots being persistent AI brokers who roam round and bear the scars of previous battles. I want to be hunted by robots searching for to return their scars to me.

While Just Cause and Mad Max are Avalanche’s best-known open-world games, the one I see most of right here is probably their looking game theHunter [not correcting that terrible capitalisation so all can see Avalanche’s shame -ed.]. Only it’s robodogs as a substitute of deer. And the robodogs are looking us.

Generation Zero is coming to Steam in 2019. Closed beta testing is because of start this autumn, for which you’ll join on the game’s site – search for the “Join the beta” button within the top-right nook.
