The sub-genre of vaporwave has discovered a distinguished fan in Michael Nesmith of seminal pop-rock group the Monkees. Nesmith, 75, not too long ago spoke with Rolling Stone about his admiration of the style, naming a number of albums and remixes amongst his favorites, together with Macintosh Plus’ beloved full-length Floral Shoppe. “You’ve got to put in ‘vaporwave’ on YouTube and follow it down. It’s an endless cavern of inter-connected convolutions,” he advised RS. “I tell everybody I meet about it. Once you open it up, it’s like cracking an egg. It goes all over the place.”

On Floral Shoppe, Nesmith stated, “It’s the most psychedelic stuff I’ve heard ever since psychedelics. You realize that this is the kind of music I hear when I’m driving in a car and I’ve got the radio on, but I’m not really listening to it.” His different favorites embrace remixes of Toto, ABBA, and Tears for Fears.
