Mountain Man—the folks trio of Amelia Meath (of Sylvan Esso), Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, and Molly Sarlé—have introduced their first new album in Eight years: Magic Ship is due out September 21 by way of Nonesuch/Bella Union. The band has as we speak launched three songs from the file. Listen to “Window,” “Rang Tang Ring Toon,” and “Stella” beneath.
Magic Ship is simply the second album from Mountain Man, following 2010’s Made the Harbor. After the band toured behind their debut LP, the three musicians headed in numerous instructions: Meath moved to Durham, North Carolina the place she co-founded Sylvan Esso; Sauser-Monnig moved to Minnesota, then a farm in North Carolina; and Sarlé went to a Zen heart in California. Eventually, they reconvened in North Carolina.
“We all got together at Molly’s house in the wintertime, on one of the snowy days that rarely happen in North Carolina,” Sauser-Monnig mentioned in an announcement. “We built a fire in the wood stove and shared a handful of songs that felt like they could be right for Mountain Man. It happened really naturally, and all of those songs ended up being on the record.”
