“It’s dealing with some kind of love — the kind you can buy,” Christine says of the tune in a press release. “It’s a literal interpretation. A note for a shag — how surprisingly soothing this can be! The power ratio runs clear, like water in your hands; it becomes a pure gesture of love, of ultimate consent.”
“5 Dollars” is off Christine and the Queens’ forthcoming album, Chris, which is due out September 21. It follows the beforehand launched singles “Doesn’t Matter” and “Girlfriend” with Dâm-Funk. Her final album was 2014’s debut Chaleur Humaine, which acquired a self-titled American repackaging in 2015.
