iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

I have what looks like a resolution. I did the 'Erase all content and settings' process, and imported a backup from iCloud. At first it didn't seem to do anything to solve the drain. But I turned off the phone overnight, charged it fully, and now it seems to be draining at a more acceptable rate. Hopefully that sticks, but I'd recommend anyone who hasn't tried that to do so.

I have been having the same issue and the only thing that has helped is to go to Battery in General Settings and turn ON LOW POWER Mode. I have found that this actually helps quite a bit but unfortunately you're mail will not automatically be fetched so you need to manually check it every 10 minutes or so if you rely on email for your work.

There seems to be more denial at the Genius Bar than at your local bar.😁

My phone has become a paperweight after all of these resets, I can't use any of the native apps without the keyboard locking up in Mail, Messages, Safari etc. The phone totally freezes while typing and I have to close out the app and it will happen again. The battery drainage was rampant as well. Losing 30% in under 45 minutes of screen time.

Took the 10.1.1 update just yesterday and noticed when my battery was at around 23% my phone shut itself off. It was very abrupt and when I attempted to turn it back on I got the image to charge it.

Plugged in my device only to see it say I have 33% battery life. This update has definitely messed up either my iPhone 6s Plus's battery life or the reading of it.

Apple, please fix this ASAP.

My iPhone 6s is not even a year old and it has performed beautifully. Until this week. This week I took the upgrade to 10.1.1 and without warning, the phone is now not even able to get through the workday. I am not accustomed to having to charge up before leaving work and I've had to borrow my colleague's charger twice this week. I too have also experienced a sudden and dramatic drop from where the battery will be at a reasonable percentage such as 30% and then within a moment the phone died. Cmon Apple, all of these people are telling you it'snot the ohone or their errors. What say you?

Are used to charge my iPhone 5s for S3 times by the end of the day I refuse to do that with this new technology. If you do not get your act together and straighten out this software problem, I guess I'll be one of the many that are now migrating to other platforms. You make a lovely phone but it's quite useless if the operating system makes it unusable .

Same issue here on my iPhone 6. Running iOS 10.1.1. my phone suddenly shut down. Three seconds before it died, my battery was at 79%. I plugged it in and in two seconds it read 28%. But then right before my eyes it magically went back to 79%! Something in iOS 10 is draining our batteries. BTW a full restore in iTunes doesn't change anything.

Its a lie.... so many people are facing this issue and they are just not owning up... they want us to buy new phones and give them a business ... All the tips dont help at all... i wake up to a dead phone almost every morning even when my batter is over 60%

Ive been to apple care thrice, they ran disgnostics, no issue was found still they restored my phone and they upgraded to ios10 but i m facing the same problem again .. nothing is helping... finally they suggested me to spend about $375/₹25k to get my phone exchanged but y should i spend such a hefty amount if ios10 is faulty?

So some good news. I went from 10.1.1 -> and restored to 10.1 since it is still being signed by apple. After a barebones install my phone was acting up and freezing at first. Now it looks like it's settling down even if it doesn't understand what 1% battery life means as it has been at 1% usage for the last hour of usage.

My screen time is now about 6.5 hours of usage.

So I hope this will last although it's too early to tell and some apps won't install unless 10.1.1 is installed.

Apple needs to figure this out though. I don't consider this a fix and the last upgrade is ruining batteries
