      Critics Consensus

Though the show around them burns a bit too slowly, Tales from the Loop beautifully transposes Simon Stålenhag's paintings into moving art and provides a welcome dose of warmth and humanity with its sci-fi.

Thomas U It does have it moments, but it is droning and slow much of the time. Some of the episodes don't have much substance as it relates to general, overall theme. It proves and portrays that bad people who have no empathy towards those they hurt can get away with far worse than murder and be seen as good people. Danny does far worse than murder his best friend, is only concerned if Jakob is "mad" at him and is portrayed as a good person who lives a charmed life. Same with the Grandpa Russ. Long moments of "nothing" happening, with meaningless, slow and minimal dialogue, combined with a moral compass/message that is not acceptable, makes this one of my least liked series. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/06/24 Full Review Gary B Tales from the Loop is one of those shows you hit on while clicking around trying to find something good and find out it isn't. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Person 1 My god this is so boring. Gave up after 20 minutes. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review Jim H Although the "blow everything up" crowd will find it boring, I found this well written, character driven, series of loosely interwoven stories engrossing. Eight whimsical meditations on the human condition. Brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review Dennis D Stunning visual beauty, very well made. And beautiful piano soundtracks. Hard to explain the main plot, because it is actually formed by different stories revolving around different protagonists (but all connected). Essentially, it explores universal themes about humanity such as selfishness, aging, death, loss, father's role and his resposability, time's flowing,... Some episodes have been boring and less interesting for me, but episodes 4 and 5 are mesmerizing. p.s. I very enjoyed the kid Duncan Joiner's acting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/27/23 Full Review Kelly K Fresh ideas spread in a close to home sci-fi fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of creation through this show and felt compelled to watch each episode. Great series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sam Mossman Arizona Republic Tales from the Loop is reminiscent of science fiction anthologies from the past. For folks who appreciate such things, the show will definitely hit the mark. Dec 30, 2020 Full Review Scott Bryan BBC.com Cinematically, it looks stunning. Every scene could be a painting. Yet the plot is non-existent. It's infuriating. Jul 15, 2020 Full Review Kylie Northover The Age (Australia) Tales from the Loop is a unique series in which everything happens: life, death, love, parenthood, longing and ageing. Jul 6, 2020 Full Review Mireia Mullor Fotogramas All in all, 'Tales from the Loop' is a visually incredible, conceptually suggestive, and narratively improvable series. Apr 22, 2024 Full Review Olly Richards NME (New Musical Express) A visually impressive sci-fi series makes the extraordinary seem humdrum...
