With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Young Nudy - “Zone 6 (Remix)” [ft. Future and 6LACK]

There are no gimmicks in Young Nudy’s music. When Nudy drops a track you’re going to get hard beats with gloomy melodies, menacing raps, and a dark sense of humor. Nudy never compromises his sound, refusing to force his way into the limelight by chasing the sounds of his peers, a musical choice that has turned him into one of the crown jewels of Atlanta’s current generation. On “Zone 6 (Remix)” Nudy recruits Future and 6LACK for a tough-talking update to his Slimeball 3 track, that should bring more attention to Young Nudy’s music.

Like most Nudy songs the track begins with his peculiar production choice. The haunting Fore’n and JetsonMade melody pairs perfectly with the Nudy’s villainous flow. The song pays homage to Atlanta’s Zone 6, the section of the city that helped turn Nudy into the man he is today, and Future feels the same, reflecting as he unleashes a creamy flow on the instrumental: “Zone 6 commando, workin’ out the bando.” 6LACK then uses this opportunity to let everyone know that although he sings like a lovestruck R&B artist, he should be stepped to like a rapper from Zone 6: “Sticks up, load it up, better give it up.” It’s a collaboration that successfully pays respect to the hood that raised all three.
