A 50th anniversary edition of the Kinks’ 1968 album The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society is on the way. It’s due out October 26 via BMG. The reissue will come in various formats, including a “Super Deluxe” box set featuring demos, alternate versions, live takes, TV performances, and more spread across five CDs, three 12" LPs, and three 7" singles. Additional materials include interviews, photography, and essays by the Who’s Pete Townshend and others. Below, check out the previously unreleased track “Time Song.”

“I think The Village Green Preservation Society is about the ending of a time personally for me in my life,” Ray Davies said in a statement. “In my imaginary village. It’s the end of our innocence, our youth. Some people are quite old but in the Village Green, you’re never allowed to grow up. I feel the project itself as part of a life cycle.”

Earlier this year, Ray Davies revealed that the Kinks are planning to reunite and record their first new album in 25 years. Read Pitchfork’s Sunday Review of Something Else.
