The nominations for the 2018 Tony Awards are here. Leading the nominees are SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical and Mean Girls with 12 nominations each. One of the Spongebob nods is in Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre. Its huge musical guest list is subsequently up for the award: Flaming Lips, T.I., John Legend, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Panic! at the Disco, They Might Be Giants, and more.

Bruce Springsteen will receive a special Tony Award for “Springsteen on Broadway.” Making the announcement, Hamilton’s Leslie Odom Jr. called Springsteen on Broadway a “theatergoing experience of extraordinary dimensions,” Rolling Stone reports. Summer: The Donna Summer Musical also picked up two nominations: Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical (LaChanze) and Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical (Ariana DeBose). See all the nominations on the Tony website.

Although David Bowie rarity “No Control” featured, it’s not an original song, so he isn’t nominated.
