Waxatchee and Kevin Morby have covered two Jason Molina tracks for MusiCares, a charity supporting musicians’ health. “Farewell Transmission” and “The Dark Don’t Hide It”—originally by Molina’s bands Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., respectively—are available on 7” vinyl through Dead Oceans. Listen below. Morby and Katie Crutchfield have worked together before—they shared a rendition of the Velvet Underground’s “After Hours” and covered Everclear’s “Santa Monica” while on tour. Molina, who died in 2013, released his last solo album, Autumn Bird Songs, in 2012. His Black Sabbath Covers from the late-1990s got a physical release last October.

In a press release, Morby describes bonding with Crutchfield over their mutual love for Molina on tour in 2016. They made the covers at his studio in New York, splitting vocal duties. “We would record all day, eating eggs from all the chickens running around, taking breaks to read old articles and watch live footage of Jason and his band,” Morby writes. “He’s a true inspiration and there’s no other songwriter or vocalist quite like him. We are deeply honored to be able to sing his songs, and we do hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed creating them.”
