Maximum Rocknroll, the San Francisco-based punk fanzine that’s been around since 1982 and published over 400 issues, announced today that it will cease print publication this year. There will be three more print issues in the magazine’s current format this year. Later this year, their record reviews will be published online alongside the weekly radio show. The announcement stresses that MRR is definitely not coming to an end.
Maximum Rocknroll got started in 1977 as a radio show. In 2016, the publication launched a successful campaign to fund a comprehensive online database of its record collection and music reviews. The announcement says that updates regarding the archive and future projects are forthcoming. A public meeting regarding the publication’s future is happening on January 20.
