Tomorrow, Speedy Ortiz heads out on tour with Liz Phair. In honor of the occasion, the band has shared a cover of her song “Blood Keeper.” It’s an outtake from Phair’s 1998 Whitechocolatespaceegg album. Check it out below, and find Speedy Ortiz’s live dates on their website.

The proceeds from pay-what-you-want Bandcamp sales of the “Blood Keeper” cover will go towards helping produce and distribute a pocket guide called “Making Spaces Safer,” created by War On Women’s Shawna Potter. “Shawna and I have a shared interest in using our music to spread awareness, and to empower people to make their scenes more inclusive,” Sadie Dupuis says in a statement. “So of course I was super excited when I got my copy of ‘Making Spaces Safer.’ If every venue’s staff had access to it, bands would have stronger allies in keeping their fans happy and safe.”

Today, Dupuis has also announced her first published book, Mouthguard, a full-length collection of poetry. It arrives November 1 on Gramma Press. “Mouthguard’s poems are magical escapism,” Dupuis says. “They’re my devotional affirmations of manic love, or they’re incantations about illness and loss and the strangeness of bodies.”

Speedy Ortiz released their latest album, Twerp Verse, in April. Read “The Next Generation of Western Massachusetts Indie Rock” on the Pitch.
