“Empire” star Jussie Smollett has given his first television interview about the attack he suffered in Chicago last month. Speaking with Robin Roberts on an episode of “Good Morning America” that aired today (February 14), Smollett said, “I’m pissed off. It’s the attackers, but it’s also the attacks.” He then discussed the attack in vivid detail, describing the racist slurs his attackers used, as well as the fight that ensued and the aftermath.

Smollett also questioned people who have doubted his story. “It feels like if I had said it was a Muslim, or a Mexican, or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me much more. A lot more,” he said. “And that says a lot about the place that we are in our country right now.” Watch below.

Following the attack, which occurred on January 29, Jussie Smollet’s family released a statement, calling the incident an “inhumane act of domestic terrorism.”

In his own statement, issued in February, Smollett said, “I still believe that justice will be served.” He continued, “As my family stated, these types of cowardly attacks are happening to my sisters, brothers and non-gender conforming siblings daily. I am not and should not be looked upon as an isolated incident.”
