Hal Blaine, a drummer for the famed group of session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew, has died, Variety reports. Blaine’s family confirmed the news in a Facebook post. He was 90.
As a member of the Wrecking Crew, Blaine played drums on a number of classics including the Ronettes’ “Be My Baby,” the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds and “Good Vibrations,” the Crystals’ “He’s a Rebel,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and many more. Blaine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Last year, he received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy. Blaine and the Wrecking Crew were the subject of Danny Tedesco’s 2008 documentary. Last month, Blaine performed at his 90th birthday party.
