Boots Riley has signed a script deal with Annapurna Pictures, The Wrap reports. The production company was behind films such as If Beale Street Could Talk, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Phantom Thread, and more. This marks Riley’s second film behind his directorial debut, last year’s Sorry to Bother You. It starred Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Terry Crews, and others.

Riley recently addressed the fact that Sorry to Bother You was not nominated for any awards at the 2019 Oscars. “The largest factor as to why we didn’t get nominated is that we didn’t actually run a campaign that aimed to get a nomination for Screenplay or Song,” he explained.
