Jabari Shelton, better known as ASAP Mob co-founder ASAP Bari, has sued a woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her in July 2017, TMZ reports. According to the report, Shelton claims that the woman (referred to as Jane Doe) told police officers on the night of the alleged incident that he did not sexually assault her. Shelton is reportedly suing the woman for “defamation and civil extortion for allegedly pressuring him into settling.”
Video of the alleged incident surfaced in July 2017. Shelton called it “[a] misleading video clip.” Shortly after the incident came to light, Nike cut ties with Shelton’s fashion label VLONE. Months later, in November 2017, the woman sued Shelton for over $1 million. In May 2018, Shelton was arrested in London—where the incident allegedly occurred—on two counts of sexual assault.
In other ASAP Bari news, last week, on August 13, The Hollywood Reporter and TMZ reported that Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to pursue sexual assault charges related to an alleged November 2017 incident. The D.A. has sent Pitchfork documents that confirmed they declined prosecution after the reporting party said she didn’t want to continue pursuing a criminal case. It is currently unclear if the London incident and the declined L.A. case are connected.
