Chris Brown Arrested After Rape Accusation, Denies Allegation

Chris Brown was arrested in Paris on Monday (January 21) after a woman filed a report of aggravated rape, Associated Press and Reuters report. Brown, his bodyguard, and one other person were held in custody while investigators look into the claim, French police told AP. Police are also looking into potential drug infractions, a French judicial official said. Pitchfork has emailed Brown’s team for comment.

Update (01/22 3:49 p.m.): Chris Brown has posted an image that reads “THIS B!TCH LYIN’” onto his Instagram account. In the caption, Brown denies the accusations. “I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR...... THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF CAP!” it reads. “FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISRESPECTFUL AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!”

Update (01/22 5:33 p.m.): Brown and the other two people have been released from police custody, AP reports. Brown has reportedly been authorized to leave France while an investigation continues.

In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to the felony assault of Rihanna. Since completing his probation in that case in 2015, he has faced legal troubles including a felony battery charge and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as being sued by a woman who says she was raped at his house.
