Lucy Dacus is setting the record straight.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the "Best Guess" musician, 29, confirmed that a mention of the name "Lucy" on Taylor Swift's 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department was about her.

On the title track of the album, the "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart" musician, 35, sings: "Sometimes, I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me / But you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen / Everyone we know understands why it's meant to be / 'Cause we're crazy."

"I think it's fair game to say 'yes,'" said Dacus of the mention. "She actually texted me and asked for my approval."

The "Talk" artist, who will release her latest record Forever Is a Feeling on Friday, also revealed her reaction to the song when she initially heard it.

"Well, I pushed play on the album just like, 'Oh, this is so crazy,'" Dacus recalled. "This is the first Taylor record to come out since meeting her, and listening to a friend's record feels so much different than a stranger's record."

She continued: "So I was like, 'This is really weird. This voice that I've heard basically what feels like my whole waking life saying my name.'"

"It was definitely an experience," said Dacus. "I sat down and I was like, 'Huh. Wow.' But I think that that record of hers is super open-hearted, and I don't know how many people at her level, if anyone is at her level, are writing from the heart that openly."

Speaking with PEOPLE, Dacus also recently opened up about her "new pal" Chappell Roan.

"When [Chappell] was feeling spread really thin, all of us in Boygenius were encouraging her and telling her that it'll die down, and it is just a really spinny trip when everybody has something to say about you," she said.

Dacus then detailed how the "Pink Pony Club" hitmaker, 27, helped her through a challenging time.

"I had kind of a bad week a couple of weeks back, where putting out music just feels worse, and it made me wonder if I should just skip to the part of my life where I live off the land and have a job that isn't my name," she said. "And she was just like, 'No, what you make is important and makes a lot of people feel less lonely.'"

Roan also sent her flowers, which made Dacus feel "grateful" to have a new friend "with such a good heart.
