Ubisoft, the gaming studio renowned for bringing us the Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon franchises recently started the closed beta testing phase for its latest multiplayer title – XDefiant. The beta went live on April 13 and is set to conclude on April 23.

Developed by Ubisoft, XDefiant is an upcoming online multiplayer first-person shooting game where players form a team of six and fight against one another. The free-to-play title is aimed at both casual and competitive players and lets players select various characters, which bring their own set of abilities and ultimates to the battlefield.

XDefiant – Maps and gameplay

Currently, the game lets players choose characters from four factions – Libertad from Far Cry 6, Phantoms from Ghost Recon, Echelon from Splinter Cell, and Cleaners from The Division, with Ubisoft planning to add more factions in the near future.

Every time the players spawn in-game, they can choose their faction, which in turn defines their passive and active abilities and affects the weapon they can choose from.

Ubisoft says the game is divided into two categories – Arena and Linear. Arena is simple to play, with the team having more points at the end of the round winning which can be scored by taking down the opponent. If you want tactical gameplay, Linear matches puts one side on the offensive and the other one on the defensive, similar to Counter-Strike or Valorant.

Festive offer

At launch, the game will have 14 maps, which is greater than what other games like Call of Duty have to offer. Each of these maps will be home to different game modes, which include the likes of Occupy, Escort and Hot Shot, and Zone Control. Ubisoft also said that Ranked Matchmaking will be available on launch and that players can choose from 24 weapons with 44 possible attachments.

Each season is expected to last three months and the start of a new season will introduce new maps, factions, weapons, cosmetics, events, characters and battle pass rewards.
