Subnautica Below Zero goes into early access next week

Subnautica Below Zero, the standalone expansion to the original game, heads into early access next week.

The early access period for Subnautica Below Zero starts January 30, and will be available through the Epic Game Store, Steam, and Discord Store.

On that day you can also expect a new trailer to drop and watch a livestream (thanks, Blue).

Here's word from developer Unknown Worlds:

"Below Zero is not finished. It is full of bugs. It lacks polish, runs poorly, and is missing features. We are offering Early Access not because we want your money, but because we want your feedback. We make better games when we make them with you."

Subnautica Below Zero will eventually release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The current plan is to release it through the Xbox Game Preview program before launch. It's not a done deal, but the studio is "exploring the possibility."

The team's goal is to also release the 1.0 version of Below Zero simultaneously on all announced platforms, if all goes according to plan.

Announced last summer, the standalone expansion to Subnautica is set in the ice-bound region of Planet 4546B. It takes place after the events of the original game.

Subnautica is an open-world adventure game and was released on PC in early 2018. It arrived on PS4 and Xbox One in December.
