Destiny 2 had the biggest "console game launch week" of the year, largest ever day 1 sales on PS Store

Destiny 2 has been confirmed a hit on consoles, with record-breaking sales and engagement.

Everyone suspected Destiny 2 would have a big launch, but Activision today outlined just big it was. According to the publisher, the game had the biggest "launch week" of any console game released in 2018.

In particular, digital sales were a big factor in this, surpassing the original Destiny. Destiny 2 was the PlayStation Store's global hit, seeing more day one sales than any other game in the history of the platform. The publisher did not reveal hard numbers for any of this.

As our Destiny 2 guide shows, there's a lot in the game to wrap your head around. Perhaps that's why Destiny 2 has also broken franchise engagement records. Bungie previously announced over 1.2 million concurrent players at launch, but that's not all.

For eight days in a row, there were over 1 million concurrent players in the game, resulting in the biggest ever week one concurrency for the franchise. That's a lot of players trying to level up, earn Exotic weapons and Exotic armour and generally get ready for the end-game.

The PC version is, of course, yet to release. Destiny 2 launches October 24 on PC.
