Jeuxvideo.com: http://www.jeuxvideo.com/preview/794864/vampyr-alors-ca-mord.htm

It is now official, after a delay the game will be released on June 5 on PC, PS4, Xbox One. This new interview with a Vampyr reassures us about the implementation of Dontnod's new ambitions. Between moral choices, investigations and fight scenes, more dynamic than during the last presentation of the game, the title announces a duration between 15 and 30 hours depending on your desires for exploration. It remains to be seen if the final mix of this series of ingredients will convince us when it comes out.

From Gamekult: https://www.gamekult.com/jeux/vampyr-3050394023/test.html

Introduction:
The Vampyr session started an hour and forty-five minutes ago, and I'm seriously wondering if I putting down the controller, thanking my hosts and leaving before the end would miraculously pass for something other than rude impoliteness. Several fellow journalists felt the same, all stuck on the same sequence of the demo, peeking feverishly at the screens of their comrades, for fear of being the only bad player in the group. Everything had started very well, one good surprise after another. But once Dr. Jonathan Reid started his first real fights with a weapon in hand, damn, what an impossible beatdown. There is something rotten in the kingdom of Vampyr, and Dontnod has four short months to clean that up.

Conclusion:

We are ready to make some compromises because Vampyr's writing and direction put us in a good mood and made us really eager to see more. But there still is this rough and superfluous action, like a big indigestible nerve in the midst of an alluring meat. A few months to sublimate the constraint and find the balance that changes everything is a very short time. To know if it is possible, however, it will be necessary to wait until June 5th.

That doesn't sound good. But i need to hear from more outlets as these things can be very subjective, as seen by the reception to Remember Me's combat.

Wow, that is not good to hear. They're lucky they gave themselves a few short months to fix the issues because it seems to be a good concept.

I had similar takeaways, too. Full preview here.

Quotes:

The first few hours of Vampyr do a really good job of setting up the claustrophobic, dying world of London in 1918... but they also left us with a few persistent fears about how the game is going to feel once it sees a final release on June 5th.

The combat itself just feels a bit janky. Dodgy animations, some awkward controls and repetitiousness work against the combat - especially when you're bullied by more than a single enemy at a time.

Vampyr is tough, we get that - it's designed to punish you for not embracing your vampirism. But paired with awkward controls, confusing hitboxes, framerate lag and more... well, it becomes unfun.

If you don't want to drink the blood of your peers and patients, there are other things you can do to make life easier for yourself: crafting weapons, brewing potions - there are systems in place that have your back if you want to play the good guy.

I can't read the article right now ( I will in a couple of hours No I won't, because it's in French) but that quote sounds ambiguous. I'm not sure if he's complaining about the quality of the combat or its difficulty.

Sounds like its gonna suffer from similar issues to Remember Me if they don't polish up the combat in time for release.

Well, fuck, that sounds bad. I remember the combat looking and feeling a little janky, but that was almost two years ago, so I assumed it went through a major overhaul.

I hope they iron out the problems by release :( Probably a title I'll buy only during a sale otherwise. Was looking forward to it.

Eurojank strikes again!

Or is it just Vampire jank? Bloodlines combat was not the best thing ever either. But I still had fun with it (and the game is masterpiece) so I am confident I will be fine with Vampyr too, provided that other aspects are good (writing and atmosphere).

VtMB is my favourite game of all time and it by no means has the most stellar combat out there. If Dontnod are capable of providing a deep role-playing experience then I'm willing to close my eyes on some of the jank. I already know that it'll have stellar music, as for the rest, well, we have to wait and see.

This isn't really a surprise to me. Every gameplay video I've seen of this game looked really bad.

People keep bringing up this comparison, but I don't think they are even supposed to be remotely similar games.

Vampire: Bloodlines was an immersive sim based on a tabletop RPG, while this sounds more like a visual novel/narrative-focused adventure (Ă  la Telltale/Life is Strange) with combat sessions to mix things up.

Both. The quality of the combat paired with the difficulty makes it needlessly harder than it should be. Apparently many journalists were stomped by the difficulty despite liking a lot of the things that wasn't combat.

I hope they can delay it a few months if need be.

I am in for the story and setting. Not-so-great combat is something I can tolerate if the game is good otherwise.

IMO this game sounds far more appealing as an adventure game with lots of dialogue/choices and things to make about who you feed on and not. I think it would have been more appealing if they left out the whole combat/brawling system and focused more on the story/npc's, more life is strange, less Remember Me.

Yeah me too, have done it for other games as well, but I sure am hoping that they can do something about this or it'll likely get panned in reviews which will likely contribute to a lot of lost sales.

Dang, I'm really hoping they can turn this around and pull it off. Wasn't there a thread on GAF about how they needed to sell like 500k copies?

At least they have LiS 2 to fall back on to save them again. Hopefully.

If the game can be played with avoiding all combat as promised, why not

If the part I played is anything to go by, you absolutely cannot avoid all combat - that's for sure. Various missions require you to go battle other vamps, vampire hunters etc in order to progress the story. No way around that - and I tried to find one for quite a while

It sounds like the writer tries to blame the game for his own incompetence

Damn. That's a shame. Maybe they should just bite the bullet and delay it, even though they just announced the release date.

I was hoping it'd turn out to be good, though I don't particularly like most vampire movies and games. Life is Strange was great, and some people liked Remember Me quite a bit, though I've yet to play it. I'd been keeping an eye on it and planning to give it a shot, but maybe I'll pass.

This game always looked a little off to me. Hopefully it can be improved before release.

Maybe that changed, but in the annoucement ( a loooong time ago) they said you could either play full combat and embrace your inner vampire or totally shut it and avoid combat

This doesn't sound too good. I enjoyed the combat in Remember Me, so I'd be happy if it played like that. Still going to buy the game because I love these guys, so here's hoping I like it as much as their other titles.
