I've been diving back into Dragon Age lately and since I play on PC I mod the shit out of the games and I've remembered how much I hate people sometimes.

This is Isabela. She is a beautiful woman of colour. [For those saying wughhh she's tanned!!!: Isabela is from the same country as Vivienne below. She is a woman of colour, and at least half-black.] Of course, people did this:

The Isabela whitewashing mod is the most downloaded mod of all time in the Companions category on the Nexus. This is not something you have to dig around to find. It's right there.

Then there's Vivienne, an amazing black woman who fought her way into a position of power. So of course, this happened:

I just. I'm so angry. It's like, seriously? People are so fucking fragile that they can't handle even a HINT of non-whiteness in their games? This goes for mods that make gay characters bi. Fuck off with that shit. Friendly reminder that if you use any of these kinds of mods you're garbage bye.

I remember there being a Stellaris mod that turned earthlings all white that got pulled from some mod database.

I mean people can and should change characters to however they want. You should be able to make an all asian cast for instance

I mean seriously someone spent a non-zero amount of time making these "mods" (really just porting their character model into the creator and making some tone edits) and they look fucking horrible. Like someone smeared grease paint on their faces and gave them terrible contacts. That's some weird ass dedication to racism in a game that's got racism literally baked into the plot.

I dont think isabella is black.

I also dont see the big deal about mods changing ethnicity. Dont install them. There, problem solved.

First time I stumbled upon this was the White CJ mod for San Andreas. Still kept your friends/family black if I remember correctly, which seemed rather half-assed for a mod for players terrified of black people.

If I just saw a context-free picture of Isabella there is no way I'd read her as a black character. Unless you're using black to refer purely to darker skin and not any kind of African origin?

To be fair to Isabella, she definitely looked white in DAO. They changed her design completely, but it does look a fuckload better in 2. Sadly I don't think the kind of people making and downloading that mod are doing it for character design consistency.

The worst is the "White Demetrius" mod in Stardew Valley. There's literally one black dude in the game, and some people can't handle that. Fucking ridiculous

Yep. Very common mods. I know I saw some for Mass Effect that do the same thing to Jacob.

It doesn't surprise me that these mods exists but I fail to see a reason to get mad over them. Just don't install them. Not like this can ruin your enjoyment of the game.

This is just simply the price we have to pay for mods to exists and honestly I can think of a lot worse mods than whats in the OP off the top of my head.

This on top of the ubiquitous "sexy armor" mods really helps to reveal some of the innermost qualities of the modders involved.

It's just annoying considering how even Hollywood tends to get away with this kind of shit, and then you see people pushing it online with these kinds of mods... I mean, it doesn't exactly feel welcoming to PoC, y'know?

She wasnt whiter in Origins it was just the lighting of the room she was in. Someone exported her character model and she looks a lot darker anywhere else except for that Tavern.

Well there is no africa in dragon age. And i dont think the world features any sort pf prejedice due to skin color. Where you come from or if your a mage can be an issue, but being black isnt treated like it os in the real world.

Her model is completely different in DAO, she looks like an unimportant NPC, it wasn't til DA2 til she was fleshed out and actually given a unique design.
