Not much more than the title, over the past couple weeks some Sony first party games have been getting new patches randomly (in some cases, it's the first patch the games have had in years). They just have a generic "bug-fixes" in the changelog, and their behavior on PS4 is identical so I'm curious as to what it could be. The list:
  • PSVR Worlds
  • Astro Bot: Rescue Mission
  • Everybody's Golf VR
  • Spider-Man
  • God of War
  • God of War 3: Remastered
  • Concrete Genie
  • The Last of Us Remastered
They've also been updating these in packs, all of the three VR games got the patch at the same time, and God of War / GOW3 just got it at the same time as well. We do know that some PS4 games will support some of the PS5 UX features as Sony themselves said it, and we know Ghost of Tsushima for example is getting patched for better performance on the next-gen console. Do you think this means anything?

It's probably just for basic ui support and any large bugs they've come across for ps5.

I think if they were large things they'd announce it. Somethin like a 4K60/ssd patch for something like God of war would be big news for the fanbase.

One can only hope that all the titles in the PS+ collection get patches to unlock fps/raise resolution target.

If Xbox BC is anything to go by then get used to these. Random small updates to games every so often. It's always just related to BC code.

I feel like bloodborne has to be a mess on the back end. It never even got a PS4 Pro patch.

lance mcdonald and digital foundry did a video showing it running at 60fps, it seemed okay. obviously hacking it from that perspective is different to changing things when you have source but i would hope it would not be substantially more difficult WITH access to the source code.

I can't imagine why they'd patch any games for PS5 enhancements when they could do the "remastered" treatment and ring another $10-$20 out of their fanbase.
True, although Spider-Man is amongst the patched games so maybe they plan to do both (if that's what the patches are for)

Yeah, if Spider-man got patched then I think that disproves the "upgraded" theory. Probably just some minor fixes to ensure perfect backwards compatibility.

I've meaning to replay GoW for a while now, so next year before Ragnarok hits would be ideal if they can get it juiced up.

The eternal wish is Bloodborne, yeah.
Has it still not gotten a patch since release??
I don't think so. Well, not at least patches that fix the most glaring visual problems the game had. As in, not all of the low-poly and low-res assets, mind you, but some of them were very clearly bugged (we have high-res versions of them from people entering the code iirc). So that was probably because of a lack of time before release or simply a hard work around that they couldn't commit to then.

It'd be weird in a different time, but I assume they're prioritizing other things right now, like Remake 2 and probably a PS5 version for the first one.I guess they could patch the PS4 version around that time too, but idk.

The non-VR version of Everybody's Golf would greatly appreciate a patch that helps speed the load times up

It could just be compatibility patches. Updating them to better use the new card system shown in the UI today maybe.

I can't install the latest Spider-Man patch.

Side note: The PS5, now more then ever, needs a "check for any updates for installed titles" feature.

I am 100% certain they are PS5 patches. Either for compatibility or for higher settings.

I feel like bloodborne has to be a mess on the back end. It never even got a PS4 Pro patch.

It likely didn't because the PS4 Pro wasn't quite a big enough boost over PS4. DS 3 got a patch and it barely did anything.

The 60 fps hack suggested the game had a CPU bottleneck, and the PS4 Pro was only a minor improvement there.
The other option would be to fix the resolution, but even there, it's not like it was enough to get up to 4K.

It probably won't happen, but I think there's a good reason why things might be different here.
