League Of Legends cartoon series Arcane is delayed

Arcane, the cartoon set in the world of League Of Legends, will not be out this year. Riot Games announced yesterday that the global pandemic has somewhat hindered production, so they're pushing it into 2021. Riot say they are "bummed" about the hold-up but "need to balance our excitement for the story with the safety and well-being of our teams and partners." Yes, important to consider the well-being of your teams.

Announced in October 2019, the show is set in League's twin cities of Zaun and Piltover, a utopian city on the clifftops and the polluted industrial undercity. It'll star League wizards Vi and Jynx, and Riot say "the story follows the origins of two iconic League champions—and the power that will tear them apart."

The Riot creative development & IP person known as "Ghostcrawler" explained the delay in yesterday's announcement:

"Creative development and production is hard, especially in a world where you can't see your coworkers IRL. We have video meetings now, which help, but they are no substitute for being in a room where we can really get the creative energy flowing. Combine these issues, along with the technical difficulties of production at the international scale, and the problem becomes a lot bigger. Props to our amazing creative partner, Fortiche, who has continued to do everything they can to keep moving Arcane forward."

Valorant might be the shiny new thing from Riot right now but they still have so much going League going on. Along with Arcane, they have an esports manager game, a maybe-action-RPG-ish game, a platformer, and a turn-based RPG in development.
